This bundle contains the six Year 10 English LearnWell Digital resources:
Year 10 Close Reading of Written Texts
Close reading is carefully reading, listening or watching a text to gain better understanding. In this course we'll be looking at written texts so you'll be reading. Close reading helps us gain knowledge, understand stories or characters and helps us develop good communication skills. Close reading is about gathering information, identifying features of language and sharing detail to communicate ideas in a thoughtful way.
Year 10 Creative Writing Skills
This course will give you ways to shape, refine and add spice to your creative writing so that you can communicate effectively with people who read your work. We hope that you'll be yourself and be honest in your writing. Take risks with your writing, experiment and have fun!
By the end of this resource, you’ll understand the keys to writing a great essay (a short piece of writing that has a purpose). In NCEA, you’ll need essay writing skills. If you go to university or polytechnic, the skills in this resource will help you gain your qualification. Many jobs you choose will have you reaching for some of these skills too.
Key language skills are the skills you use to correctly spell, punctuate and construct sentences with good grammar.
Year 10 Reading for Information
We all read for information. We look at websites to see what's on at the movies. We read online reviews to find out if something we want to buy is any good. We also read for information to complete school projects and later, to do our jobs.
In this course, we'll help you develop your skills so you can read for information. We'll give you lots of tips and share some of the important things to think about when you're finding and choosing information to read. But we can only help you so far because the best way to get good at reading for information is to practise.
Year 10 Visual Language Skills
If you completed the Year 9 Visual Language Skills resource, then you already know that you are in for a whole heap of fun, cleverly disguised as learning.
Have you ever walked past a picture theatre and seen a poster that makes you think – ‘Ooh, that looks like a good movie’? What grabbed your attention? Was it the picture, the words or how the whole thing was put together? All visual language has a purpose – to get our audience to think, feel or do something. Like go to a movie!
LearnWell Digital resources bring you the same great learning as in our books - but in an interactive digital format. They are accessed by using the iQualify online learning platform, where you'll find all your digital resources together in one place.
