Visual language skills are used all around us in the world. Most people don’t realise the amount of careful thinking, planning, tools and techniques used to create or understand a good visual text.
Have you ever seen a really clever poster that made you laugh? Then the image is making use of visual language skills to get your attention.
We can all learn the techniques to communicate better using visual texts.
What you’ll learn
In Year 9 Visual Language Skills you’ll learn how to:
- what visual language skills are, understand why they are important and who might use them
- about static images and how to ‘read’ static images
- how to recognise different types of static images, what they are used for and ways to create them
- how to understand and demonstrate the use of key techniques of composition for designing static images
- about film and how to make a film, including the process of how to plan, film, edit and evaluate
- different film techniques and features to make a film.
How you’ll learn
Learn by doing
People learn in different ways but most of us learn best by doing. In this course you will put the techniques you learn into practice with two key projects:
- My Static Image Poster Project
- My Film Project.
There are many other activities along the way to help you learn the skills you need and practise as you go.
Learn by viewing and listening
This course includes lots of video in the film section. Get some headphones ready if you're going to be working on this course with others around.
LearnWell Digital resources bring you the same great learning as in our books - but in an interactive digital format. They are accessed by using the iQualify online learning platform, where you’ll find all your digital resources together in one place.
