Geometry is one of the oldest types of mathematics. It helps us understand the size, shape, dimensions and angles of objects around us.

These are skills we use every day, often without even noticing we are doing so. Geometry also helps us read maps and find directions. With geometry, we can figure out how to make shapes larger or smaller or move them around while keeping their properties the same.

What you'll learn

The resource is broken into three sections.

1. Solids

Solids take up the space all around us and form the building blocks of all constructions and inventions. In this section you will: • find out the names of two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) shapes and see their properties, • see how to label faces, edges and vertices on three-dimensional shapes, • learn about flat patterns (nets) of shapes and have a go at making some.

2. Angles and directions

What makes two lines an angle? In this section you'll see how an angle is formed and how to describe different angles. We’ll cover some handy rules to help you figure out the size of different angles, and you’ll learn how to work out exactly how big an angle is. You'll also learn how to find locations and share them with other people using grid references and compass directions.

3. Transformations

In this section you'll learn what happens when you rotate, reflect, enlarge or translate objects. You'll also learn how to describe these kinds of movements to other people.

LearnWell Digital resources bring you the same great learning as in our books - but in an interactive digital format. They are accessed by using the iQualify online learning platform, where you’ll find all your digital resources together in one place.
