Close reading is carefully reading a piece of text to gain better understanding.
Close reading helps us gain knowledge, understand stories or characters and helps us develop good communication skills.
Close reading is about gathering information, identifying features of language and sharing detail to communicate ideas in a thoughtful way.
What you'll learn
In Year 9 Close Reading of Written Texts, you'll learn how to:
- read a text in a way that helps you find its most important details
- recognise language features that send the reader messages and make a text more interesting
- understand why authors choose their words carefully and how to get to the bottom of what written texts are all about.
In this course we'll look at close reading of written texts. Close reading can also be done for other kinds of text, too, like: films, posters, speeches and even advertisements.
