This resource covers the things you need to know and be able to do for the Planet Earth and Beyond topic of Year 10 Science.
Earth/Papatūānuku is our home planet – humankind has been shaped by the conditions and processes we experience on it, while at the same time we ourselves shape and change Earth’s surface and ocean environments as well as the global climate.
What you'll learn
In this resource you’ll work through three main sections:
1. History of planet Earth
In this section, we’ll revisit some of the main points you covered in Year 9 about the formation of Earth and its moon, since it’s helpful to refresh your memory of those before we move into looking at aspects of Earth and the Moon in greater depth.
2. Exploring planet Earth and our moon
In this section, we’ll explore plate tectonics and its connection with the rock cycle; clouds, weather and ocean currents; the layers of Earth’s atmosphere and winds; as well as the role of our Moon on the tides and in eclipses.
3. Climate change
In this final section, we’ll consider both the natural climate cycles seen in Earth’s past, as well as the current changes in climate that have been brought about by human actions.
