Measurement is a part of mathematics that is all about finding out and describing the size of different things. We use measurement often in our daily lives to explain things such as distance, time, temperature and weight. Knowing how to measure things will help you make sense of the world.
What you'll learn
This course is broken into five sections.
1. Practical measurement
In this section you’ll learn about: metric units and converting from one metric unit to another measurement tools measurement scales accuracy of measurement measuring temperature and time.
2. Length and perimeter
In this section you’ll learn how to: use side lengths and formulas to find the perimeters of polygons find the circumferences of circles find the perimeters of composite shapes read and understand maps, plans and scales.
3. Shape and area
In this section you’ll learn how to: find the area of polygons using both formulas and the special properties of some polygons find the area of circles, sectors and composite shapes find the surface area of prisms and cylinders.
4. Solids and volume
In this section you’ll learn how to: calculate the volume of prisms, cylinders, pyramids and cones measure capacity.
5. Representing solids on a flat surface
In this section you’ll learn about: nets drawing solids plan views.
