Taku Haerenga 1 is an online course designed for Year 9 students. It aligns with both New Zealand Curriculum Key Competencies and Career Development Benchmarks. It is between 10 and 15 hours of learning and is perfect for implementing across the school in form time or as a three week unit.
Taku Haerenga helps prepare students, not just for work today but how work will change in their lifetime. Students follow the journey of a young person their age and work through activities designed to help them understand of their own strengths and interests and how these might lead to future career opportunities.
Topics covered:
1. It all starts with you – where students look at who they are, so they can use their interests, values, qualities, and skills to find career options that suit them.
2. Your future career – where students explore different career options learn how to find out about them.
3. Making plans – where student learn how to set career goals and plan so they can work toward a career they want.
4. Taking it all in your stride – where students learn about change and how to handle it well.
