This course is divided into six sections:
1. Market structures
In this section you’ll learn about the following market structures:
- Monopoly
- Duopoly
- Oligopoly
- Monopolistic Competition
- Perfect Competition
Note: the emphasis in this Achievement Standard will be on perfect competition and monopoly market structures.
2. Perfect competition
In this section you’ll learn about how perfectly competitive firms operate under the market structure of ‘perfect competition’.
3. Perfect competition and the effects of changes in costs and demand/revenue
In this section you’ll learn about how changes in variable costs, fixed costs and demand/revenue affect a perfectly competitive firm.
4. Monopolies and natural monopolies
In this section you’ll learn how monopolies and natural monopolies operate.
5. Monopolies and the effects of changes in costs and demand/revenue
In this section you’ll learn about how changes in variable costs, fixed costs and demand/revenue affect a monopoly.
6. Comparing and contrasting perfectly competitive and monopoly firms
In this final section you’ll gain an understanding of how to compare and contrast monopolies and perfectly competitive firms.
