Start Right Workbooks: an award-winning series

LearnWell’s Start Right Workbook collection are colourful, write-on workbooks for New Zealand's primary and intermediate learners. These books consistently top LearnWell’s bestselling list. They’re also the winners of the Lift Education Award for Best Educational Book or Series – Primary.

The Publishers Association of New Zealand (PANZ) Book Design Awards recognise the best book designs in New Zealand, so we’re very proud to have received this award in 2023 - and (drumroll please!) we're so happy to announce we've been nominated again in 2024!  

What are Start Right Workbooks?

These workbooks engage learners from Years 1-8+, helping them master subjects like English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Each year level has a dedicated book for these subjects, along with essential skills such as Handwriting, Punctuation, Creative Writing, and Problem Solving, supporting students through their primary and intermediate education with clear, consistent design.

 

Created for New Zealand primary learners

Start Right Workbooks are created and printed in Aotearoa New Zealand. Experienced classroom teachers have carefully written and reviewed the material to ensure it meets all students' needs. The new editions are fun, engaging, and easy to use, with clear explanations of concepts and ideas.

The books include New Zealand examples, enabling Kiwi students to see themselves reflected in what they learn.

2023 winners of the Lift Education Award for Best Educational Book or Series – Primary

Our Start Right Workbooks won the PANZ Book Design Award for Best Educational Book or Series – Primary in 2023. Judges praised the series for its age-appropriate design and educational effectiveness. Year 4 Homework and Year 8 Social Studies are just two great examples from the Start Right series.

The judges acknowledged how the material progressively gets more sophisticated as learners move from Year 4 to Year 8, which along with the subtle change in font sizes, layout and illustration styles targeted to each age group “reassures the learner that they are on a learning journey”.

The authors of the Start Right Workbooks are experienced teachers who know that each child is unique and following their own learning journey. Whether they are working ahead of their age group or catching up on missed learning, the Start Right Workbooks “credit…the pupils with intelligence”.
